Pirates 6th straight loss takes a back seat to a scary moment in the 7th inning

The Pirates dropped their 6th straight game to the St. Louis Cardinals tonight by a score of 6-4. However, the outcome took a back seat to a scary moment that occurred in bottom of the 7th inning during a 4-4 ballgame. A fan dressed in Cardinals gear reached over the railing along the first base line, attempting to grab a foul ball hit by July's rookie of the month Garret Jones. The fan fell head first into the ground and appear to have suffered some sort of neck injury. As the man hit the ground, the first person to be at the scene was none other than the best player in baseball, Albert Pujols.

Pujols signaled in the nearby medical staff to get to the man quickly. The delay lasted for at least 10 minutes, and for the entire time Pujols was by the man's side assisting the medical staff. As the game interruption rolled on, more and more members of the Pirates front office including Frank Coonelly came down to assist in the matter.

The man appeared to be the father of a young man that he was with. In the wake of the matter the kid was given the ball that his father was trying to grab. I also saw him having an in depth conversation with the Cards slugger Albert Pujols and Buccos president Frank Coonelly. Man, that kid probably wanted to meet Pujols his whole life, he's probably glad that his dad's clumsiness stopped a Major League Baseball game now. With the assistance of Pujols, the medical staff attached the man to a backboard, put him on a stretcher, and rolled him off the field. A good sign was that the man saluted the crowd with a thumbs up signal as he was carried off the field.

The game continued, and the rest as they say, is history. Your Buccos spoiled another game for the hometown fans. Despite the incident, it was very refreshing to see that a player with the stature such as Pujols came to assist the man and the medical staff throughout the whole delay. Our thoughts and prayers all go out to the man and his family.
