-Is this year's training camp for the Super Bowl Champs actually "soft?" (PBG)

-Future Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz has been cut from the Red Sox. In what could have been his last outing in his career, the Yankees tagged Smoltz for 8 runs in only 3 1/3 innings of work on Thursday night. (Yahoo)

-Newly acquired pitching prospect Tim Alderson had a no-hitter through six innings last night for the Curve. Altoona went on to win by a score of 7-2. The victory makes Alderson 8-1 on the year. I am beginning to like this trade more and more every fifth day. (Altoona Curve)

-Sidney Crosby is now of legal drinking age. Like he didn't take a sip out of Lord Stanley when the grueling journey finally ended.

-Pitt men's basketball released it's 13 game non conference schedule. The pre Big East play is highlighted with a nationally televised contest against Indiana in the Jimmy V Classic. The game will be aired on ESPN on December 8th, at 9:00 pm from Pitt's home away from home, Madison Square Garden.

-One of the Pirates top OF prospects Jose Tabata went 3-6 with a home run last night in AAA Indianapolis. September call-up?

-The Pirates have signed two of their prized high school pitchers from the 2009 draft class. 6th round pick Zack Von Rosenberg and 8th round pick Colton "Billy" Cain. (Baseball America)

-Michael Crabtree is prepared to sit out the 2009 NFL season and re-enter the draft in 2010. (Sports Illustrated)
